Marbella - My Home; My name is Carolina Salem, founder and director of Solobanus Marbella Properties, and I have had the privilege of growing up in this beautiful Marbella of ours.
Marbella is unique for so many reasons – the climate, the quality of life, and that wonderful combination of international, cosmopolitan and dynamic energy. At times, you could almost feel as though you are living in a city, yet at the same time Marbella has the welcoming, simpatico and warm way of life of a Mediterranean coastal town, where people know each other and there is still a real sense of community.
Marbella has been my home since childhood, and real estate has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.
I studied at Aloha College in Nueva Andalucía, surrounded by an international community, and later completed my Bachelor’s degree in London, where I lived for several years. I am bilingual in English and Spanish and also speak Italian, which has allowed me to work comfortably with clients from many different countries and backgrounds.
A Family History in Marbella Property; I come from an international family of entrepreneurs, where real estate has always been part of everyday life. My father, Maurice Salem, was a well-known investor and property developer in Marbella during the 1970s and 1980s. He developed some of Marbella’s earliest luxury residences and the first truly luxurious private palaces in Marbella. A true pioneer, he played an important role in attracting and influencing Arab investment and royalty in Marbella during those years.
My mother, Mary Salem, also built her own career in Marbella real estate, opening the first M.D. Salem Properties office in Puerto Banús in 1999.
From an early age, I accompanied my parents while they viewed plots, villas, apartments and commercial properties, both in Marbella and internationally. Growing up in this environment gave me an early understanding of property and investment from a buyer’s perspective, but above all, it taught me the importance of trust, discretion and long-term relationships.
Marbella Real Estate Since 1999; I began my professional career in Marbella real estate in 1999 at M.D. Salem Properties in Puerto Banús, working alongside my mother before establishing Solobanus Marbella Properties in 2004.
Over more than 25 years, I have experienced the Marbella property market through very different cycles – its ups and downs, recessions, and times when I have seen many agencies come and go. Yet, after more than 25 years, I am still doing what I love - selling beautiful property in one of Europe’s most amazing parts of the world!
Much of my business comes through recommendations, repeat clients and long-standing investors who have trusted me with several purchases and sales over the years. For me, that continued trust is one of the strongest measures of the service I provide.
Over the years, Solobanus has also become particularly well known for property sales in Playas del Duque, Las Gaviotas, Atalaya de Río Verde and Lorcrimar - areas where we have built a particularly strong history of successful sales and purchases.
Above all, I believe good real estate advice begins with listening - understanding the client, giving straightforward advice and always protecting their interests.
Marbella is not simply where I work. It is my home.
